• I work at a movie theater, so I get to see a lot of movies for free. Below I have a list of who I would vote for in the Oscars to some of the main categories this year if they were held right now and I was a member of the academy. I don’t know if I have “good taste” or whatever, but this is what I think. Mostly I’m just posting this because it’s fun to make lists, and I want to put something out while I’m working on my New X-Men essay, which is going to be long and might take a while.

Actor in a leading role (male): Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen in Primetime

Runners Up: Stacy Clausen as Ryan in Leviticus or Robert Pattinson as Charlie in The Drama

Actor in a leading role (female): Zendaya as Emma in The Drama

Runners Up: Indie Navarrette as Nicki in Obsession or Adria Arjona in Onslaught

Actor in a supporting role (male): Skylar Gisondo as Dan Plum in Primetime

Runner Up: Mamoudou Athie as Mike in The Drama

Actor in a supporting role (female): Merrit Weaver as Andie Bender in Primetime

Actor in a supporting role (female): Hoyeon as Sung Ae

Runners up: Alana Haim as Rachel in The Drama, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, or Mia Wasikowska as Arlene in Leviticus

    Best Picture: Primetime

    Runner Up: The Drama

    Best International Picture: Hope

    Runner Up: Leviticus

Best Director: Lance Oppenheim for Primetime

Runner Up: Na Hong-jin for Hope

Best Original Screenplay: The Drama by Kristoffer Borgli

Runner Up: Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma by Jane Schoenbrun

Best Adapted Screenplay: Primetime by Ajon Singh, based on Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die by Luke Dittrich

    Best production design/art direction: Backrooms

    Runner Up: Hope

    Cinematography: David Bolen for Primetime

Runner Up: Hong Kyung-pyo Hope or Arseni Khachaturan for The Drama

Editing: Kristoffer Borgli and Joshua Raymond Lee for The Drama

Runner Up: Alex DiGerlando for Primetime

    Special Effects: Project Hail Mary

Runner Up: Spider-Man: Brand New Day

All of the movies here are very good movies overall, not just the aspects I mentioned. (Backrooms is kind of an exception. I didn’t care for the movie but I can’t deny that the sets were great.) I would really recommend Leviticus, Onslaught, and Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, which I know not enough people saw and probably would have been listed here more if not for the constraints of their budgets.
